Extreme Makeover Home Edition

Dreams became reality for Blacksburg’s Crawford-Smith family when ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition knocked on their Ardmore Street door. The homeowner, Carol Crawford-Smith, is a single mother and dance instructor who was dealt a cruel and ironic blow five years ago when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Each episode of ABC’s Emmy-winning series is a race against the clock to completely transform an entire house—inside and out—in just one week.  By compressing nearly six month’s work into one week’s time, designers, contractors, and hundreds of volunteers work franticly to help make the family’s dream a reality.

Marshall Concrete was proud to be a part of this project. Most of the work, all labor and materials were donated by local or national companies like Marshall Concrete.

About 1,000 people, both building professionals and simple volunteers, worked 24 hours a day from Tuesday through Saturday to demolish the 1,250-square-foot house and build a new, fully furnished three-bedroom home — more than double the size of the old one.
